HELLO! (and the liberal double standard)

Published by limabeanerson at 11:13 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Alright.  Here we go.  My first blog on Today.com.  First a tiny bit about me.  I’m in my late 20’s, have been very conservative (politically) as long as I can remember.  I am married with three kids.  I suppose that’s enough about me for now.   As my first post I want to examine the classic liberal double standard.  Have you ever noticed how democrats tend to claim they are the party of tollerance.  The party of acceptance.? Democrats want to allow gay marriage because they are tolerant.  They want to allow abortion because they want everyone to have a choice.  They want amnisty for illegal immigrants because they want to accept everyone.   GREAT.  Sounds like a bunch of great/nice people….until you disagree with them.  Try chatting with a group of liberal democrats about making abortion illegal or  banning gay marriage.  Because you disagree with them they think you are an idiot.  They may critisize you (either to your face or behind your back) for your “crazy right wing” ideas.  They are anything but tollerant.   Why is this party of tollarence so quick to judge those that disagree with them?  They can tollerate the marriage of two men, but not the idea that it is wrong?  They can tollerate the killing of a fetus, but not the idea that all human life should be given a chance to live??Please, Explain this to me!

I can’t. I may have voted Democrat, but I don’t understand the mindset of either party. That’s why I’m an Independent. Excuse? Not really.

Please don’t confuse liberals with Democrats. I’m kind enough to distinguish conservatives from Republicans. If you want to play the who’s more tolerant game, you’re going to lose as long as Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are still your mascots. Please spell check your posts from now on. Welcome to Today.com.

Dude, you’re going to need some fresher material than the old “liberals say they’re tolerant but they’re really not” argument if you expect to make it in the world of political blogging. I’ve been hearing that tired old shit for years.

    Lima,
Bill is right, democrat does not equal liberal. As for abortion, maybe the intolerance stems from the fact that pregnancy can be a life threatening event that can kill a woman or lead to serious health complications that can affect the rest of her life and abortion is a medical procedure that can often save a womans life. And as such is a matter that should be resolved between a woman and her doctor. Furthermore the “killing a fetus” language is just inflammatory rhetoric. An incalculable number of pregnancy’s end in “spontaneous abortions” (miscarriage), most every industrialized democracy in the world has legal abortion. That’s because it’s an issue that relates to women’s reproductive health rights. It’s easy for men to wax righteous about what rights women should have.
As for “gay marriage”, why are you worried about gay people having the same options straight people do when it comes to spousal rights? Again this is another issue that’s a non-issue, and is a clear demonstration of the intolerance of those who would oppose.
Now just because these people you are talking about think you are an idiot, doesn’t mean they are quick to judge. They more than likely have thought the issues through and when they see someone taking a stand that they have already judged to be ignorant and intolerant; their judgment about the intelligence of such opinions is already in place. Furthermore what you’re complaining about is their “intolerance of your intolerance”. Kind of ironic, yes, but hardly a rash judgment on their part and it’s a weak criticism to complain that people should be more tolerant of intolerance.
